Dark Summer Style

Summer isn’t just for pastels.

Here in Las Vegas, our summers heat up to around 95-115° F (or hotter), so an all-black look or a dark fabric isn’t always synonymous with summer style.

Yet, a dark color palate is one of my favorite, sexiest styles for summer.

While I enjoy the occasional pop of color, I’m normally bathed in darker hues. There’s just something about a deep purple, a sexy navy, or a gorgeous burgundy that makes me feel sweet and seductive. Summer is no exception. Plus, in full transparency, I love darker colors because they mask sweat stains better. Combine that with breezy fabrics, cuts that show lots of skin, and lots of jewelry and you’ve got a sensuous, summer wardrobe that’s actually comfortable. Sharing some pieces below to encourage you to try deepening your summer palate.

Everyday Tanks with Interesting Detail

My go-to, everyday tanks are these black affordable ones from Old Navy. I’ll buy 3 at a time, and they last a good while. Yet, because I wear tanks so often I like adding ones with some type of interesting feature, like this tank where you can pop open a few buttons to let a lacy bralette peek through. This tank with thin straps and a nice V-cut is ideal for a chunky necklace. A bit of lace detail, perhaps?

Flowing Halter Tops

It’s one of the easiest outfits: halter, jeans/shorts, sunglasses, glittering earrings, and few chunky bangles. I prefer halter tops that have the decollate exposed versus the high neck. Much cooler in the heat, less makeup on your shirt, and show a sexy hint of skin.

Textures & Prints

Suede in the summer? Yes. Polk dots? Yes. Beaded jewelry? Sure. I’m not fully sold on this uptake in beaded bracelets everywhere, but I do think a good, dark colored beaded necklace paired with a gold chain and pendant adds some interest to what would otherwise be casual outfits.
