Best Dressed At The 2023 Met Gala

A Few Thoughts

  • This was probably my favorite Met Gala in quite some time. I enjoyed the fashion so much — especially as a lover of black and white looks adorned with lots of accessories. I found myself quite inspired.

  • I love menswear, and I’m always most looking forward to seeing what the men are wearing. I feel like they had fun this year, and took risks.

  • I miss seeing Wiz Khalifa on the Met carpet. That sepia brown Dior Homme suit? The Thom Browne jacket? *chef’s kiss* I really love when looks are classic, fun, well-styled, and worn effortlessly. Wiz did that well. I would have loved to see what he would have styled this year.

  • Dua Lipa wore the iconic 1992 Chanel Bridal Tweed Gown. I know many are calling it one of the best dressed of the night, but I was disappointed. It’s one of my all-time favorite gowns, and I was excited to see someone take it above and beyond and actually do something with it. Last night it just felt like she was a beautiful woman in a beautiful dress. I would have loved to see it on someone who would have styled the dress. It felt so plain.

Best in Mens

Kendrick Lamar in Chanel

Smooth. Suave. Fly. Pinning as inspiration to create a womenswear version of this soon.

Taika Waititi

The color, the material, the accessories, everything came together beautifully. It’s effortless.

Manu Ríos in Karl Lagerfeld

The high collar, the fingerless gloves, the brooches. The rings? Beautifully tailored, detailed, and accessorized.

Stefon Diggs in Tommy Hilfiger

The fit and cut/flare of the pant is remarkable. The tweed? The fit of the jacket? Stunning. I would have loved to see this with a large afro.

Jackson Wang in Louis Vuitton

Effortlessly cool.

Best in Womens

Liu Wen in Tory Burch

Stunning. Glamourous. I love the off-the-shoulder, and I’m actually quite happy she didn’t add a necklace. The bare décolleté is sensual.

Amber Valetta in Karl Lagerfeld

I’m surprised by how much I love this, but it fits Amber {as a model, as a brand} so well. It’s very much her, and I think that’s why I love it. It’s sensual, whimsical, and detailed. Beautiful.

Olivia Rodrigo in Thom Browne

I would have loved to see this styled with a different hair, makeup, and jewelry look. Perhaps on Jasmin Tookes? The dress is a work of art, truly remarkable. I love whimsicality in fashion, and this has so much life.

Keke Palmer in Sergio Hudson

Keke looked DIVINE. Her body along with the hair, makeup, and earrings complimented a gorgeous gown that was made for her body. It is such a softly stated glamour, yet so powerful in silhouette.

Rita Ora in Prabal Gurung

When a sheer, black dress is done well I swoon. I dropped my jaw when I saw this, it’s beautifully captivating. The draping, the sheer in the right places, the necklace. AH! Perfection.

He Cong

I can’t find details on what He Cong is wearing, but this look was so powerful, sexy, understated, and effortlessly cool. It commanded attention. I couldn’t look away.

Grace Elizabeth in Christopher John Rogers

A vision. From the colors, the pattern, the neckline, the flare of the dress, everything works together in perfect cohesion. A work of art from CJR.

Cara Delevingne in Karl Lagerfeld

There were mixed opinions on this, but gosh I ADORED Cara in this. Fierce, sexy, effortless, casual, yet powerful. Similar to Kendrick’s look, this is something I would love to recreate.

Philipa Soo in Richard Quinn

Simple, but I have a fond appreciation for when simple silhouettes and popular patterns are done well.

Top Overall

Kendrick Lamar, Rita Ora, He Cong, and Grace Elizabeth.

Best Dressed Couple

Rita Ora and Taika Waititi

Honorable Mention

Left to right: Shai Gilgeous Alexander in Thom Browne, Yara Shahidi, Lily Collins in Vera Wang, and Kaitlyn Dever in Michael Kors Collection.
